A study published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) discovered that people who gamble online may have more severe gambling addictions than gamblers who gamble in land casinos. The study recommends that young people are particularly at risk. Younger people have a tendency to be involved in risk-taking behavior. They have elevated rates of gambling on the whole. Younger people are more expected to use computers.

The APA said that Internet gambling is more unsafe than visiting a land-based casino for the reason that internet gamblers can play alone, unremitting and unnoticed. In addition, regular or heavy users of the Internet were more expected to contribute to Internet gambling than other users.

Internet gambling is also charged for the unlimited access to online gambling. Critics say that this increases the probability of gambling addiction. Prior to Internet gambling, gamblers more often than not had to leave home and physically visit an establishment to wager or bet i.e., land casinos. Additionally, the gambling establishments were restricted to a level on account of the number of wagers placed, hours of operation, and cash necessities. Internet gambling needs nothing more than a modem connection and a credit card.
